Where We Started

Howard M. Rice, M.D., F.A.A.P.

In 2010, after 51 years as a pediatrician, Dr. Howard Rice retired from active practice.  Dr. Rice founded Town & Country Pediatrics in 1972.  The practice now has twenty-two physicians, three nurse practitioners, a licensed clinical psychologist, two child/adolescent and family therapists and over 100 total employees at 3 locations to carry on his tradition of quality pediatric care.  Today he enjoys spending more time with his grandchildren, while staying involved in the practice he worked so hard to grow.

We receive many inquiries regarding ways of honoring Dr. Rice in his retirement.  A fund to benefit the new Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago has been established in his honor.  Dr. Rice has requested that fund donated in his name be directed toward the maintenance of the Crown Sky Garden on the 11th floor, or to the Aquarium on the 2nd floor.  As a tribute to Dr. Rice, you can contribute to the sponsorship of these two vibrant and uplifting areas that will be enjoyed by the hospital’s patients, families and staff.  (see artist’s renderings below)

Donations can be made by printing the attached pdf donation letter and mailing it to:
